My name is John Washburn, and I live with my artist wife, Katherine, in Stowe, where I’ve (spec/custom), designed and built quite a number of 500K to million dollar plus homes (as well as several light commercial projects in the area). Recent events, not the least of which being the current state of our economy, have worked against me to the point where I need to retire my 35 year old contractor’s hat and concentrate on marketing my 40 plus years of design experience—I do that, here, by offering my services for a substantially discounted rate of compensation.

I’m 58 years old and I designed my first building (a tool shed), when I was 13. I grew up in an ancient era where it was taught (relevant to a construction plan), that there’s no such thing as too much detail—my drawings provide all construction personnel with extensive guidance and leave no aesthetic, functional, or structural matters unresolved. Further, decades of experience allow me to efficiently and effectively interpret a custom client’s vision for their new home or renovation project and turn that dialogue into a final result that pleases.

Substantially reduced fees? Yes. Note: In light of the fact that I’ve enjoyed a lifetime, parallel career as a general contractor, aside from design work, I’d be nearly as content to fill any full or part time position you might know of for an estimator or project manager.

Ahem…now for the bad news: While I truly appreciate the undeniable, space-age utility of CAD design, I’m a Philistine who still does architectural drawings by hand. I do, however, feel that what I so miserably lack in CAD skills (I have none), I compensate for with decades of experience that allow me to, with some enviable speed and facility, design appealing and highly functional structures, as well as to find innovative solutions to the most challenging design dilemmas.
