Centenary Young Performers INTERVIEWS for SUMMER PROGRAM

Dancing, Singing and Acting will be the centerpieces of the Centenary Performing Arts Guild summer theatre program for young people, offered again this July and August on the campus of Centenary College. On Saturday, Mar. 19, the Guild will hold initial interviews for admission into the Young Performers Workshop summer session.
This year the Centenary Young Performers Workshop (YPW) Summer Intensive Program, will be held July 25 through August 28, 2005. Called "a state treasure" by the Star Ledger, the YPW serves young people ages 9 - 18 from the four county region of NW New Jersey. YPW camp hours are Monday through Friday , from 9 - 5, with additional Saturday rehearsal sessions. All students are guaranteed a part in at least one of the three full-length musical productions which make up the Festival of Shows at the end of the session, in addition to participation in the One- Act Playhouse performances. A sample of the many classes offered during the 5 week program includes Acting, Voice, Dance, Acting for the Camera, Stage Combat, Monologue Workshop, Playwrighting, and a new addition to the program, Acting for the Camera. The cost of the 5-week program, held on the campus of Centenary College, is $925.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The YPW is the educational arm of the Centenary Performing Arts Guild and the Centenary Stage Company, a professional Equity theatre in residence on campus, headed by Producing Artistic Director and Professor, Carl Wallnau. Led by Broadway, film and television veteran Michael Blevins (www.michaelblevins.com, the YPW is an intensive professional theatre training program for young people ages 9 - 18, featuring concentrated training by a professional staff in required disciplines of acting, voice, tap and theatre dance, in addition to elective training in stage combat, playwrighting, directing, choreography, dramatic mask-work, Intro to Shakespeare, box office management and technical design.
The YPW is one of the only training programs of its kind, focusing on the production process as well as the classroom.
